Bob Schrank, Elite Team Manager of Team Type Nordisk (formerlyTeam Type 1),a world-class cycling team comprised entirely of Type 1 diabetics that in 2010 won the 3,005-mile Race Across America in 5 days, 10 hours and 48 minutes.

Nancy K. Smith is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with
over 30 years of experience in the practice of psychotherapy. Nancy was
diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes as a young teenager. Because there was little
information available about the emotional management of diabetes, she struggled
on her own for many years with various feelings about her diabetes. It wasn’t
until she was able to use her psychotherapy training and knowledge that she
finally figured out a way to come to peace with her disease. Since then, Nancy
has helped others to establish a respectful relationship with their
diabetes.
Here are some general topics for discussion.
What are your biggest challenges with Type 1 diabetes?
- The unpredictability factor
- Fears about the development of complications
- Restrictions/ ways diabetes limits you
- The strengths you've gained from living with diabetes

Jacqueline King, a registered dietitian, certified diabetes educator and
insulin pump trainer who has lived with type 1 diabetes for more than 40
years. Jackie will discuss guidelines for successful outcomes with
insulin pump therapy.
